Privacy Policy
How Act Now Legal Services collects, uses, and protects your personal information.
Last updated: May 2026
1. Who we are
Act Now Legal Services (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a licensed paralegal firm located at 164 Innisfil Street, Unit 103, Barrie, ON L4N 3E7. We are regulated by the Law Society of Ontario (licence P21639).
This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
2. Information we collect
Contact form
When you submit the contact form on our website we collect your name, email address, phone number (optional), the type of matter you are inquiring about, and your message. Submissions are stored in our own client system, on servers in Canada, and are not passed to a third-party form service.
We use this information to respond to your inquiry, and we keep a record of it afterwards so that we can check for conflicts of interest. As a licensed paralegal practice we must be able to tell whether we have previously been approached by someone on the other side of a matter, and that check is only possible if we keep a record of who has contacted us. Our staff may add notes to that record about our dealings with you.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to our newsletter we collect your email address. You will receive no more than one email per month containing plain-English updates about Ontario law relevant to our practice areas. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send.
Booking
When you book an appointment through this website, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and anything you choose to tell us about your matter. We use it to place the appointment on our calendar, to send you a confirmation, reminders, and a follow-up by email, and to prepare for your visit. The appointment is stored in our own systems and on our Microsoft 365 calendar; the emails are delivered through Resend.
Error monitoring
We use Sentry to automatically detect and log technical errors on this website. Sentry may collect your IP address and browser information. We use this data only to diagnose and fix technical problems. See Sentry’s Privacy Policy.
3. How we use your information
- To respond to your inquiry or provide the service you requested
- To send the newsletter you subscribed to (with your express consent)
- To diagnose and fix technical issues on the website
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties
- We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling
4. Third-party services
We use the following third-party services to operate this website:
- MailerLite — manages newsletter subscriptions (Privacy Policy)
- Microsoft 365 — holds our calendars, where appointments are recorded (Privacy Statement)
- Resend — delivers booking and portal email (Privacy Policy)
- Sentry — monitors website errors (Privacy Policy)
- Vercel — hosts this website (Privacy Policy)
5. Data retention
We keep a record of inquiries indefinitely, because the conflict-of-interest check described above depends on it: an approach made two years ago is exactly the one we need to find. The record is held in our client system and is seen only by the practice. Newsletter subscriber records are retained until you unsubscribe.
If you would like your inquiry record removed, write to us at hello@actnowlegalservices.com and we will remove it unless we are required to keep it.
6. Your rights
Under PIPEDA you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you
- Request a copy of your personal information
- Request corrections to inaccurate information
- Withdraw consent for us to use your information (subject to legal or contractual obligations)
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@actnowlegalservices.com.
7. CASL — newsletter consent
By subscribing to our newsletter you are giving express consent under CASL to receive commercial electronic messages from Act Now Legal Services. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link. We will honour all unsubscribe requests within 10 business days.
8. Security
This website is served over HTTPS. We do not store payment information. Contact form data is transmitted directly to Formspree over an encrypted connection.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the website after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
